Mountain Lakes High School has a new addition to its family: Steve Gilgur, The Physics Guy. Coming from Parsippany High School where he taught for 14 years, Mr. Gilgur says he truly loves the atmosphere at MLHS. He is teaching AP Physics 1 and CP Physics.

Mr Gilgur takes a unique approach to his classes by providing a comprehensive approach to Physics while engaging the students with his comical stories. He provides a thorough review of of the subject and shares interesting anecdotes regarding his experiences as a teacher.

New to the Mountain Lakes community, Gilgur has recognized significant differences from Parsippany High School. One notable change that he has noticed within his first month at the high school is the size of the student body. Parsippany High School has more than triple the number of students and teaching staff. Although it requires some adjustment, he enjoys the smaller atmosphere here at Mountain Lakes that allows for closer bonding with students.

Gilgur graduated from Rutgers University, receiving his B.S. in Material Science Engineering. He then went on to complete his M.A. in Educational Technologies from William Paterson University.

Mr. Gilgur was particularly involved with the drama program at Parsippany High School. He was involved in the production of dramas and is especially capable handling the technical aspects, including sound and lighting. He has over 15 years of experience in producing over 50 shows.

Another one of Mr. Gilgur’s passions is playing video games. He uses his PC, which he surprisingly built in less than two hours, to adventure new games released on an application called Steam. A favorite game of his was Call of Duty, which he eventually decided to discontinue playing because of 12 year olds who would scream into their microphones and shout absurd things.

There are a few other surprising facts that students might not know about their new physics teacher:

  • In his childhood, Mr. Gilgur acted in the movie Perfect Strangers.
  • Now Mr. Gilgur is the father of five-year-old twins, one boy and one girl.
  •  At home, he sometimes speaks Russian, his native language.

Mr. Gilgur is an excellent addition to the Mountain Lakes community.  We welcome Mr. Gilgur!
