What is social justice?

Textbook definition: the idea of fairness for all people in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges. (See more here).

Why social justice?

We think that in today’s highly polarized world—political and otherwise—it is extremely important that we do not lose sight of the greater issues facing us as people. It is crucial that people with a diversity of viewpoints and beliefs cooperate to develop solutions to these problems.

Wait… what are these social justice issues?

The ever-expanding list includes, but is not limited to:

  • racial justice
  • income equality
  • healthcare
  • voting rights
  • climate justice
  • gun violence

What will the MLHS club look like?

We will strive to learn more about and help various social justice causes. We will watch films, listen to speakers, read excerpts, and hold open discussions.

What’s the commitment? What can I expect if I join?

We will have meetings approximately once per month, during which we’ll discuss and learn about a particular issue. The content we discuss in the club will be entirely member-driven, so we’ll consider any suggestions!

Email ehirschfeld21@mlschools.org or slore21@mlschools.org if you’d like to learn more or join!
