The Super Bowl is one of the biggest sporting events of the year. The two best teams in the NFL this year, the Chiefs and the Eagles, battled it out to see who would take the crown. The Chiefs came out victorious, winning 38-35 on a last second field goal. But don’t worry if you don’t care about football, as there is something else on display during the game: the commercials. The best and most creative advertisements are featured during the Super Bowl and this year’s did not disappoint. Here are some of the standout commercials:

Sam Adams: A Brighter Boston

Kevin Garnett standing side by side with a “Boston local”

This ad begins with a Boston resident buying some Samuel Adams beer from a local store. Sam Adams has supposedly come up with a new slogan: “A Brighter Boston.” The man imagines what it would be like if everyone in Boston was nice to one another. We see a Red Sox and Yankees fan hugging (this is one of the biggest rivalries in sports), and former Boston Celtics player Kevin Garnett showing off a book about spreading love. The man is brought back to reality by the cashier, who says his card has been declined. The commercial ends with Sam Adams’s new slogan: “Boston Lager, now brighter.”

GM and Netflix: Why not an EV?

Will Ferrel

The car company GMC and Netflix came together to make this commercial that featured famous actor Will Ferrell. Ferrell is first pictured driving a GMC truck through a horde of zombies, a reference to one of Netflix’s shows, The Walking Dead. Call backs to other popular Netflix shows such as Squid Games, Stranger Things, and Bridgerton were also shown. Stranger Things star Priah Ferguson, who plays Erica Sinclair, tells Ferrell, who is dressed as Dustin Henderson, another main character of the show, that he is “ruining the show, idiot.” The commercial ended with Ferrell turning into a zombie promoting GM’s new electric vehicle.

PopCorners: Breaking Bad

Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, (played by Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul) characters of the famous TV show Breaking Bad, are making PopCorners snacks to sell to the public. White tells Pinkman that “it’s just simple ingredients,” showing that all of the components that make up PopCorners are healthy and can be trusted. However, they need a distributor to help sell their creation, and they turn to another major character from the show, Tuco Salamanca, played by Raymond Cruz. Salamanca is skeptical at first, but once he tries the snack, he asks for seven flavors instead of the proposed six by White and Pinkman.

Busch: Cold and Smooth Survival Skills

Sarah McLachlan chilling with a wolf in the commercial

This commercial starts with a narrator taking viewers through the “Busch Guide to Cold and Smooth Survival Skills.” He mentions that there are three things that one needs when surviving outdoors: food, drink, and shelter. When he mentions the shelter, Grammy award-winning artist Sarah McLachlan appears from inside a tent next to what she thinks is a dog. She recites a speech about protecting wild animals and getting them to a shelter. The catch here is that McLachlan is talking about an animal shelter, not a survival shelter out in the wilderness. The ad ends with the narrator cutting her off and pointing out that the animal sitting next to McLachlan is not a dog, but a wolf.

Blue Moon: Miller Lite vs. Coors

Men fight for the right for this commercial to be their separate brands. In the end, it was neither of their brand’s commercials.

Is this a Coors or a Miller Lite commercial? Both brands, represented by two men, fight over whose commercial this is supposed to be. An elaborate fight scene occurs, with the Miller Lite man being smashed through a brick wall. The man advocating for Coors thinks that he has won but the fight continues on. A spotlight appears where the victor’s beer is to be placed. They fight over whose brand should be featured in this spotlight. Plot twist- it’s neither of their commercials, and it turns out that it’s actually been an advertisement for the beer company Blue Moon this whole time.

Kia: Binky Dad

#binkydad

A family of three with a baby are checking into a hotel for an upcoming vacation. The mother asks the father, played by Kevin Bacon, if he remembered the baby’s favorite binky, to which he comes to the realization that he forgot it. Bacon hops in his Kia Telluride X-Pro (the product being advertised here) and goes on a journey to retrieve the lost binky. He gets nicknamed “Binky Dad” and is trending across America as everyone patiently waits to see if he can accomplish this mission. He finds the binky, and gets a police escort back to his hotel, only to realize that he grabbed the green binky, and his baby only likes the blue one.

Paramount: Stallone Face

Sylvestor Stallone

On Paramount Mountain, many characters from shows offered on Paramount Plus, such as Dora the Explorer and Captain Pike from Star Trek, are gathered together in the freezing cold. Dora explains that the mountain has three faces: the Northern face, the Southern face, and the “Stallone face,” which is a huge rock face carved to look like actor Sylvester Stallone. Nobody is crazy enough to try and climb this face but Stallone himself, who is seen hanging by one arm off of the chin of the giant face of himself. We learn that this face can also talk and it lets out an enormous sneeze, causing the real Stallone to fall to the snow-covered ground. His daughters, who were watching with the rest of the group, reassure them that this always happens and he is okay.

E*Trade: Baby Wedding

Baby gives his best man speech

When this commercial first starts, two babies are seen in a room wearing suits, clearly getting ready for a wedding. They speak with adult voices, which makes this ad extra funny. One baby, who is the groom, states that he is ready to get married, and the two go back and forth naming life events that adults would typically be worried about (marriage, kids going to college, etc.) that E*Trade has prepared them for. The two babies are then shown getting married at their wedding. Later on, the other baby gives his “Best Man” speech and is seen interacting with the other guests at the ceremony. He mentions that he is “single and ready to mingle” and the ad finishes with the bride, groom, and best man watching fireworks explode over a city skyline.
