Fashion is timely. Taste is subjective. Style is Eternal.
Fashion is essentially whatever is trending, in Vogue, or what Bella Hadid or Kendall Jenner may be wearing in paparazzi photos. Trends will come and go, and oftentimes they will vary and repeat.
Taste and style are about the individual. Taste is something everyone is born with. It is what you personally will find aesthetically pleasing. It’s natural. But style is how an individual’s taste translates, or how it is presented. A personal style can reflect one’s sense of self, confidence, interests, and individuality. It can always change, develop, and be improved upon. There’s nothing wrong with asking for advice and changing the way you would like to present yourself.
It’s important to remember that money buys trends and trends do not always mean good style. You can be fashionable without style, or stylish without following trends. Obviously, some dress not as a pleasure or hobby but simply as a necessity. If and when developing a personal style, know that you can wear whatever you want to express yourself. With the increase in social media platforms, many individuals have begun sharing their daily outfits and accessories online for the world to see. They enjoy the freedom of showing off their distinctive personalities and tastes, but it is often answered with the opinions of others. Comments like “every outfit is the same thing with different fonts” have been floating around the fashion community for some time.
One should be able to appreciate other people’s styles even though you may have different tastes. Not every outfit has to be different. Not every outfit has to be groundbreaking. Personal style cannot be dictated by others. You can’t tell another person what their style should be based on your own perception of fashion, taste, and style. Simply focus on the beauty you appreciate, and wear what is truly you.
