Read Time:1 Minute, 33 Second

On Friday, February 3rd MLHS had one of its Coffee Houses. Mountain Lakes’ artistic talent convened in the media center for a night of friends, food (supplied by Friends of the Arts), and lots of musical talent.

Brisa Cutforth-Gonzalez opened with “Lost Boy” by Ruth B., followed by Kylee Blaney with “Say You Won’t Go” by James Arthur. Other performers include Quinn Michaels and Juliet Hounsell (in a duet and as solo acts), Isabella Fiacco and Kate McMurry with original songs, Allie Gleeson with “Everlasting” from Tuck Everlasting, Elizabeth McNaughton with “I Wonder What Became of Me,” and Grace Chuan, accompanied by Dorian DeHart on the guitar, singing “The Way” by Ariana Grande.

Some acts were more spur-of-the-moment than expected. There was a surprise E-chord on the guitar by Mr. Henry while opening up the night, and MC-ing (and constant comedy/ “roasting”) by Jared Goldfisher.  Halle Korman came up and sang “Waving Through a Window” from Dear Evan Hansen, who had only just realized she wanted to sing that day (and she crushed it!). Donovan Menard and Nick Donati invited a guest vocalist, Mr. Menard, to fill in for the missing vocalist in their band “The Mountain Lakes Transit Authority.” The only non-musical performance was Shelly Malka Schwartz, who recited original poetry.

As an audience member, I want to thank all the performers for a wonderful night of entertainment, FOTA for the refreshments and food (specifically the doughnuts!), stage crew for all the technical, behind-the-scenes work, and Mr. Henry, for coordinating such a successful night.
