After a pitiful decade of New York Sports, including perennially terrible Jets and Giants teams, a Knicks team that was consistently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, a Mets team that had one playoff run, and a collective zero championships among the 10 favorite teams, the future is beginning to look bright. So with the past in the past, let us consider the outlook of New York sports. I give you: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

The Good:

Let’s begin with the teams on the upswing, with a serious chance at a championship. The Jets and Giants both have bright futures. After a brutal year for the Jets, they acquired one of the great quarterbacks of the NFL: Aaron Rodgers. To go along with this superstar, the Jets have drafted young talents such as Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson and signed proven players such as interior lineman Carl Lawson to bolster their roster.

The Giants signed Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley, and after a short playoff run last year, they also have much to look forward to. The two teams want to make a serious run for the Super Bowl this year.

In the basketball world, the New York Knicks made a nice run in the playoffs and have outperformed expectations, as they took an underrated roster (with the acquisition of key star Jalen Brunson) and had a respectable 53-win season and a dominant 5 game series win over the Cavaliers. It is true that they lost the Eastern Conference Semifinals to a lower seeded Miami Heat, who have looked incredible in the playoffs. In order to take the team to the next level, the Knicks will need to acquire some more pieces to solidify their roster, but for now the future is hopeful.

The Bad:

The Brooklyn Nets, who made huge moves a few years ago to acquire James Harden, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Durant, have lost all three superstars to rival squads and have given up nearly all future draft picks in the process. While it seemingly could not be worse, their ragtag team still had a nice season this year and even made the playoffs. The future may be bleak, but at least they are making the most of a bad situation.

They hate him': Even without a goal, Timo Meier makes impact on Devils- Rangers rivalry - nj.com

In the hockey world, a promising yet aging Rangers team looked to make a deep run for the Stanley Cup this year. Still, after a first round bounce by their rival Devils, the Rangers appear to be in for a rough period. They fired their head coach and have to make considerable roster changes if they wish to have any chance at a Stanley Cup in the near future.

In the baseball world, the Yankees had a great run last year with superstar Aaron Judge. Still, they ultimately fell short competing for a World Series title. This year, with a shaky start, they have found themselves at the bottom of their division. They will need to make serious changes to their current game plan if they wish to win their division and make a run this year.

The Ugly:

At the bottom of the heap, we find the New York Mets. This team committed more than half a billion dollars to try and bolster their squad and win a World Series title. But after losing key pitcher Jacob deGrom, the Mets have found themselves in a deep hole and a terrible start to the season. They are currently 21 and 23, and have lost the previous five series to other underperforming teams.

With New York Sports teams beginning to figure things out, let us hope this decade will be more successful than the last, and maybe New York teams will finally hoist their respective trophies.
