It has been nothing less than a tremendous winning season for the Mountain Lakes Girls Varsity Tennis Team. Led by coach Mike and Ginny O’Donnell, the girls were able to solidify a good standing in the state of New Jersey with a 20-2 winning record.

The Lakers had a considerable run in the Morris County Tournament early on in the season ending in 3rd place overall.

Additionally, the first doubles team of Allie Gregorek and Emma Matkiwsky, made it to the finals of the individual tournament. The duo finished the season undefeated persevering tough matches against Mendham and Morristown Beard High School.

Later on in the fall, the girls became conference champs defeating Mo Beard with a clutch 3-2 win.

This victory fired up the team and eventually drove them to claim the title of State Sectional Champs for Group 1 North 2.

The Team had to deal with some cold fall weather but their long and hard practices eventually paid off when they were finalists in the Group 1 championship. The match was held at West Windsor Tennis Park. Melissa Mao said, “the drive up there was well worth it!”

Captain Ana Zorlas noted, “this year the team was really connected and passionate about the season, which helped us get as far as we did this year.”

The girl’s tennis team truly left a remarkable spot in the books and will hopefully come back even stronger next season.
