The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, is taking place on February 9th, and with all of the wonderful films that were nominated this year, the Oscars will be a load of fun for the whole family!

Now, because we are publishing this article before the Oscars, I am going to focus on some of the biggest categories for the nominations! If you want a full comprehensive list, you can visit the link here! In addition, there are several films that garnered multiple nominations! JOKER received the most nominations with 11; The Irishman, 1917, and Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood, all received 10 nominations each and there were many other movies that got multiple nominations!

Performance by an actor in a leading role nominees:

  • Antonio Banderas:PAIN AND GLORY
  • Leonardo DiCaprio:ONCE UPON A TIME…IN HOLLYWOOD
  • Adam Driver:MARRIAGE STORY
  • Joaquin Phoenix:JOKER
  • Jonathan Pryce:THE TWO POPES

  • I LOST MY BODY: Jérémy Clapin and Marc du Pontavice
  • KLAUS: Sergio Pablos, Jinko Gotoh and Marisa Román
  • MISSING LINK: Chris Butler, Arianne Sutner and Travis Knight
  • TOY STORY 4: Josh Cooley, Mark Nielsen and Jonas Rivera

Achievement in directing nominees:

  • JOKER: Todd Phillips

  • ONCE UPON A TIME…IN HOLLYWOOD: Quentin Tarantino
  • PARASITE: Bong Joon Ho

Parasite, directed by Bong Joon Ho, is one of the break-out movies of the year, gaining critical acclaim worldwide. It got five other nominations, tying with Jojo Rabbit, Little Women, and Marriage Story.

Best documentary feature nominees:

  • AMERICAN FACTORY: Steven Bognar, Julia Reichert and Jeff Reichert
  • THE CAVE: Feras Fayyad, Kirstine Barfod and Sigrid Dyekjær
  • THE EDGE OF DEMOCRACY: Petra Costa, Joanna Natasegara, Shane Boris and Tiago Pavan
  • FOR SAMA: Waad al-Kateab and Edward Watts
  • HONEYLAND: Ljubo Stefanov, Tamara Kotevska and Atanas Georgiev

Best international feature film of the year nominees:

  • CORPUS CHRISTI Poland: Directed by Jan Komasa
  • HONEYLAND North Macedonia: Directed by Ljubo Stefanov and Tamara Kotevska
  • LES MISÉRABLES France: Directed by Ladj Ly
  • PAIN AND GLORY Spain: Directed by Pedro Almodóvar
  • PARASITE South Korea: Directed by Bong Joon Ho

Best motion picture of the year nominees:

  • MEMORABLE: Bruno Collet & Jean-Francois Le Corre
  • SISTER: Siqi Song

Now, I know that I am not on the Academy Award Committee, but if Hair Love does not win this category, you need to throw the whole award show away. I LOVE this short story: it made me cry TWICE (I’m not sure why I am acting like that is a big deal though, since I cry about everything). PLEASE go watch it!

The Oscars have garnered a lot of buzz this year because of the multiple nominations for thousands of amazing films and the hard work of actors and actresses worldwide.
