The name “Princess Diana” is one that is widely known across the world. From her entrance to the royal family at the naive age of nineteen to her untimely death at 36 years old, her life was nothing short of controversy. The greatest turning point of her life was arguably her tumultuous divorce from Prince Charles, which fueled the hungry media to invade her personal life on a completely different level than before. Among all the private details that the British press published to the world after Diana’s divorce from Charles, the most prominent of them all was her notable transformation from the modest and obedient “Shy Di” to the trend-setting and outspoken feminist that we all remember today. Pre-Divorce

As can be seen in the image below, in her pre-divorce years, Diana made sure to dress modestly in accordance with the regulations of the Royal family that she married into. For example, Diana commonly wore long skirts, elegant shoes, and full sweaters while married to Charles. This picture demonstrates Diana’s heavy connection to portraying herself as a modest and maternal figure to the rest of the world while holding the title of the Princess of Wales. However, matters were soon to change when news of her separation with Charles broke out to the media.

Post-Divorce

Once news of her separation broke out to the media, Princess Diana’s life changed significantly. As seen in the images below, her pre-divorce fashion sense severely toned down as she finally embraced her individualism and became more comfortable in expressing her true style, such as when she flaunted a scandalous black “revenge dress” or set the trends for much of 90s fashion – things that would have been condemned by the Royal family if she was still a part of it. Instead of the long skirts and conservative outfits she had previously worn, she utilized a modern fashion style to demonstrate her rage to the cruelties that the Crown had forced her to endure.
