Historic Finish of Girl’s Varsity Team

During the county tournament, their third singles player (3S – Katherine Yakovets) was a top five seed, and first singles (1S – Caroline Yao), second singles (2S – Ruyi Zheng), first doubles (1D – Janvi Singh/Jessie Liu), and second doubles (2D – Julia Saldutti/Vivian Moor) all placed as top three seeds. 3S made it to the quarterfinal round, and 1S, 2S, 1D, and 2D all made it to the semifinals, the most Mountain Lakes has ever had in the semifinals in years. Their second singles, Ruyi, is a proud finalist, having battled it out against Mendham’s 2S. Their first singles player, Caroline Yao, has made MLHS history by being the first Mountain Lakes player to qualify and reach the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA State Singles Tennis Tournament in over thirty years. The team as a whole was the second seed in the state tournament, dominating Cedar Grove, Lenape Valley, and McNair with decisive 5-0 wins to reach the section finals, where they faced the undefeated number one seed, Glen Rock. After a tough loss, Mountain Lakes Girls Varsity Tennis claimed the title of section finalists and concluded their season with an amazing 16-2 record, breaking all previous coaching records by Head Coach Ryan Price. Congratulations to the entire team!
