Hi Laker students, and welcome to the new school year!!
Especially freshmen, you are going to want to hear this. We are going to give shout-outs to some Mountain Lakes clubs you should join!
Joining clubs – specifically at the club fair – can be quite overwhelming. There are many upperclassmen yelling in your face to join their club, offering candy (aggressively?), and, overall, a lot of over stimulation. Well, we will save you the chaos and tell you the 5 GO-TO clubs this year that are active and fun!
- Mountaineer (shameless plug #1)

Are you looking to share your ideas with the MLHS student body? Or maybe you want to report on hard-hitting journalism? If any of that sounds appealing, the Mountaineer is the club for you! With meetings once/twice a month, the Mountaineer is a medium-commitment club that gives you full creative freedom to write about anything you want. Whether you want to publish articles, games, or photography, any medium is welcome in our publication. Stop by the next meeting and share your thoughts with the school!

- Key Club (shameless plug #2)
2 words: service hours! Underclassmen, do I have the club for you? We all know the struggle of rushing to get your service hours in before the end of sophomore year. Well, that stress can be avoided if you join Key Club. Throughout the year, Key Club offers volunteer opportunities for various organizations and causes. If you participate, you can gradually accumulate your hours with no anxiety or rush. Plus, you get to give back to your community and have fun with your friends while doing it.
- Environmental club (shameless plug #3)
Service hours… yet again. But this time, you actually get to give back to your environment and make a tangible difference. Since we (Sam and Charlotte) are student liaisons for the environmental commission in Mountain lakes, We got to work with them to do impactful things around town. One of our biggest projects is cleaning up the rain garden by Birchwood!

- EMS Club (shameless plug #4)
Charlotte Caggiano, Lucas Ramirez, and Maris Koza are co-presidents. Our first meeting this year went over how to take vitals, focusing on blood pressure, and we had a very good turnout of members! This is what a lot of our meetings will look like: doing hands-on activities and learning from firsthand EMTs. We all volunteer at Boone Kiwanis EMS, and we are more than happy to give you resources to start volunteering if you are interested!
- Cookies for Kids Cancer

Picture this: fundraisers, cookies, service hours, & fun activities. What more could you ask for? Run by president Giorgi Bevacqua, Cookies for Kids Cancer is relatively new to MLHS, but it’s already a staple club. CfKC fundraises for various kids’ cancer foundations, and every dollar raised goes towards that cause. You can be sure you’re making a difference, all by baking cookies in your kitchen.
